Prof. Chien-Hung Lin received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from National Sun Yat-sen University and currently serves as Director of the Sustainable Technology Degree Program. Over the past three decades, he has accumulated extensive experience in both industry and academia.
He previously worked for 11 years in the R&D Division of China Synthetic Rubber Corporation (CSRC), where he led the development of advanced nanocarbon materials and collaborated with Michelin (France) on the development of low rolling resistance energy-saving tires.
Prof. Lin pioneered a globally unique analytical technique—Pyrolysis Gas Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry (Pyrolysis GC–MS)—which has since been successfully adopted by Taiwan’s tire industry. He later joined the Department of Materials Science at National University of Tainan, where he developed non-traditional copper catalysts for the synthesis of carbon nanotubes, breaking through conventional growth mechanisms.
In recent years, his research has focused on energy storage batteries and supercapacitor materials. By utilizing biomass and environmental waste materials such as spent coffee grounds, sawdust, rice husks, and waste plastics, his team has developed high-performance carbon materials capable of enhancing energy storage capacity by approximately three to five times, demonstrating strong commercialization potential.
He has also established a Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU) research team, transforming carbon dioxide into methane and nanocarbon materials, thereby advancing next-generation energy storage technologies.
With over 30 years of dedication to carbon materials research, Prof. Lin has led numerous national-level research projects. In 2017, he founded the Taiwan Carbon Materials Society and organized the first International Conference on Carbon Materials in 2023, playing a pivotal role in advancing carbon materials research in Taiwan.
